At the Quay

about 17,5 x 17,5 inch ( ca. 45 x 45 cm)

It began last week with a bargain fabric napkin and the embroidery pattern by ABC Embroidery, called Old City. From there it took it's own life when I added frames, using only thread. Therefore the piece would also go as a Wholecloth quilt. 

Es fing mit einer billigen Stoffserviette und einem Stickmuster mit dem Namen Old City von ABC Embroidery an. Von da entwickelte das Projekt ein Eigenleben indem ich, nur unter Verwendung von Fäden, Rahmen um das Motiv baute. Daher könnte man das Stück auch als sogenannten Wholecloth Quilt bezeichnen. 

During the sewing process I made pictures from every step to see if it worked out as I wanted. Maybe you would als like to see how this quilt evolved by looking at the pics below. 

Während des Nähens machte ich von jedem Schritt Fotos, um zu sehen, ob es so wird wie ich will. Vielleicht interessiert es euch auch die Entwicklung auf den unteren Bildern anzusehen. 

Plain Napkin, can you see the "woven in" frame? I used it as a guideline, but had to learn it was not square! Of course I ripped open and cut away the wavy edges.

Stoffserviette, könnt ihr den eingewebten Rahmen sehen? Ich verwendete ihn als Richtlinie, musste aber feststellen, dass es kein Quadrat war! Die welligen Ränder habe ich natürlich aufgetrennt und weggeschnitten.

The first frame was just lines with the distance getting wider to the outside. 

Der erste Rahmen bestand aus Linien mit immer weiter werdendem Abstand. 

The next frame was a 1 inch grid. Also I added a inner frame line to the motive to have it more outstanding.

Der nächste Rahmen wurde ein 2,5 cm Raster und auch innen nähte ich noch einen zusätzlichen Rand um das Motiv mehr hervorzubringen.

The frame lines looked somewhat boring to me, so I added more lines and defined the corners. 

Die Rahmenlinien waren mir noch zu fade, also nähte ich noch mehr dazwischen und definierte auch die Ecken. 

Not satisfied with the result, I stippled the inner frame and gave the grid a 3D look. Fortunately I found color matching fabric for the binding in my stash. 

Da ich mit dem Ergebnis noch immer nicht zufrieden war, bekam der innere Rahmen noch ein Stippelmuster und das Raster ein 3D Gesicht. Für die Einfassung fand ich glücklicherweise einen farblich passenden Stoff.

Nun konntet ihr meinen Gedankengängen folgen, beginnend mit einer leeren Stoffserviette bis zum fertigen Quilt.
